"Bad poetry is caused by people who sit down and think, Now I am going to write a Poem"

I'm starting back at Uni towards the end of September, I've been on holiday for a few months now which has been fantastic. It's probably been one of the best summers I can remember. I feel I spent my time well by going to some amazing shows, eating great food, buying many many cd's and hanging with really good people. I've remained pretty positive and kept boredom at bay which is usually a problem when I have so much free time.

The real point of this blog entry is to get some thoughts down which have been on my mind. What is the purpose I'd like to achieve in my artwork and what is it I enjoy doing. When I draw it's almost always tattoo influenced imagery despite I feel it must be highly overdone these days. I imagine all these other kids doing exactly the same thing and it bothers me that I'll be misjudged as trying to be cool. I love a certain style which I've become more aware of the past couple years, I can tell the type of tattoo I find visually interesting (timeless) or not to my taste. I'm going to continue ignoring the part of me that says my work is terrible and just keep doing it. I'm not bothered about creating specific themes or ideas at the moment because I'm happy just to enjoy doing it and simply appreciate it for visual reasons. I plan to experiment more and fail more to improve my work.

It's about photography I feel more like questioning. Recently I've looked at the work of other people and felt unmoved. I can appreciate the effort it must take however it has no great influence on me. My favourite photos are of people I know because I can relate memories and feelings to them. I doubt that many of the photographs I consider so important mean very much at all to anybody else. It feels almost like I don't fully understand photography. I definitely feel more inspired by listening to music than by looking at an image (I suppose I should remember these are two very different creative outlets). I'd just like photography to have the same feeling I get from an amazing tune. I think the best way is just to snap my way to my answer however I also intend to ask more people what they think too.

Looking forward to my second year, hopefully I'll learn and laugh a lot.

Hanging Out Is What We Do Best!

Hope I Don't Fall In Love With You

Bought a couple more cd's to add to my collection today. I felt the Minor Threat discography was necessary. I've had this on my ipod for ages now but I didn't have the physical copy until today.
They were definitely a band I felt obliged to check out due to the acclaim and influence they've without a doubt had on many contemporary bands I listen to and love. Even now I feel stupid explaining about them as if the entire world should already know which is ridiculous. If you havn't heard them before I'd definitely advise listening to them. They were around in the 80's for a few years and broke up in 1983. I find listening to them puts me in a sensible frame of mind when I feel inferior, down on life or even arrogant. It's basically an album of really angry, pissed off songs and I love them. "At least I can fucking think."-Out Of Step.
I can't write much about Tom Waits as this is the first album I've bought of his. According to wikipedia the critic Daniel Durchholz described his voice "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." I'm looking forward to giving it a listen. "Well if you sit down with this old clown I'll take that frown and break it"
I also picked up one of these for a fiver but haven't found any film yet. I'm pleased with it though, it's pretty beasty in "real life."
